Fathers...

I did not get a tie this year. I DID get to take my kids to Revenge of the Sith and enjoy a great meal at a sunlit table at Burgoo.

Fathers...like Mothers, have competing and conflicting priorities. To provide for our families - both financially, and with stability, and vision, and support and ... The list goes on. Pursuing our career to make a living (and hopefully do so in a way that builds you up rather than diminishes you) needs to be balanced with spending time (physically and mentally) with the family. Actively contributing to the development of your children. Not to mention the never-ending cycle of logistical problems that are part and parcel of your typical household.

And, on top of these responsibilities, remaining a healthy and interesting person (friendships, hobbies, etc.).

Father and Mothers...similar roles and responsibilities, but also unique aspects. Big jobs. Important work.

So, a special wish to you readers who are Dads. Good job.

The Circle of Life

Saddened this weekend by the passing of a dear friend's father. I am 38 now, and over the last 18 months, 3 good friends have lost 4 parents.

It makes me think about the passing of the torch. The reality of life.

It also reminds me that there is no time to waste. If you know what is important to you, then make those things priorities in your life. Be true to your values. Take action to see them through.

It all boils down to the basics, doesn't it.

Motivational Quotes

So true...

That the birds of worry and care fly over your head, this you cannot change, but that they build nests in your hair, this you can prevent.
- Chinese proverb

I remember James Clavell's Tai-Pan back in the 80's. The Tai-pan (CEO) of the giant trading house was quizzed about how he could juggle so many priorities, crises and intrigues all at the same time and still remain so calm.

He said that the only way you could do it was to place each of these worries in a separate little box in your brain and close the door on that box when you weren't dealing with it. Otherwise, you get overwhelmed. Neat trick. One that deserves our attention.

Happy Weekend!
