About Ian Christie, Founder of BoldCareer.com
I am President and Founder of BoldCareer, an online career planning and career coaching firm dedicated to providing managers, executives, the self-employed and professionals with the inspiration and means to reach higher and farther in their career goals.
I coach clients on career transition and job search, career development and marketing, and self-employment. I have also created a number of email courses, ebooks, assessments and other resources to help people develop their careers.
A two-time entrepreneur, former senior director at Monster.com, and former retained executive search consultant, I am an expert in the fields of careers, self-employment, and senior recruitment, and a passionate believer in the power of the individual to achieve great things.
My career definitely reflects my commitment and interest in personal development and never settling. Early work experience includes consumer goods marketing in Japan. Following an MBA, I joined the Caldwell Partners, a premier executive search firm in Canada. During five years of practice based in Vancouver, I completed close to 200 assignments at the executive and senior management level, most with a national or North American scope.
Blessed with great mentors, I was immersed for 5 years in the art of recruitment and organizational consulting. Working with thousands of candidates and clients, I learned what separated successful candidates and job seekers from those struggling in the market. I learned the fine art of self-marketing, and networking. And, I developed a deep understanding of the market for, and movement of, management and executive talent. Most importantly, I discovered a passion for helping people achieve great things in their careers and connecting great people with great companies.
With the online bug and clear visions of what the internet would mean for the career and recruitment fields, I resigned to start-up my own online recruitment and career management service targeting the executive market. Within one year of launching, Monster.com bought the company and I moved my family to the Boston area.
Thrilled with the opportunity to work on this large stage, I assumed leadership of Monster.com’s free agent / freelance / contract market, developing additional expertise in self-employed careers along the way. Later, I had group responsibility for the executive marketplace, and others. I count my two years at Monster.com as among the most rewarding experiences I have had.
Now on my second solo-venture, I definitely live what I preach. I am shaping my own future and through Bold Career, I encourage others to do the same. I love to create, to learn and develop, to inspire, to connect, and to work with bright, energized people. My career articles are published on the leading online career sites and I am a frequent contributor to the media on career issues.
I am a 1984 graduate of the University of British Columbia BA program and hold an MBA from McGill University.
