(a new window will open...please come back here when you are done)

So, how did you do?
0 - 10: Not good. You have some serious work to do before you think about starting to apply for new jobs, or go for that promotion.

11 - 14: Not bad, but examine your results to see where your danger points are (see below).

15 - 17: Good for you. You are in fairly good shape. Again, have a look at the danger points to see where you might run into trouble (see below).

Danger Points
If you think of your career transition as a process with a beginning and an end, the danger points are those critical moments in the process when you jeopardize the rest of the process and the success of your future career. Here are some examples:

Example 1: Sending out your resume without any forethought or preparation
Result: No response or totally random response.

Example 2: Applying to jobs when you haven't figured out fit and targets
Result: No response or you will end up interviewing for jobs that aren't a fit or you don't particularly want. Will feel like you have to say yes because you don't have any "choice."

Example 3: Getting the opportunity to interview for your ideal company / job, but not being prepared to sell. To explain why you. To prove your candidacy. To absolutely shine in the interviews.
Result: Job offered to someone else.

Example 4: Having an exciting target in mind, but not a complete package of readiness to make you an effective and compelling candidate.
Result: You will likely give up on that exciting target or put it off.

Example 5: Organization asks you back for second interview, and third and offers your job when you haven't even figured out exactly what you want, or what your decision making criteria are, or how to recognize when you should walk away from a bad fit or low quality opportunity.
Result: You will likely accept the job and discover later that it was a bad move.
