Job Boards - Sources of Job Postings

LinkedIn

LinkedIn Jobs should be your first stop and a core channel for job postings at the management and executive levels. The largest share of LinkedIn's revenue is from recruiting activities, so you can be assured that there's a lot of tinkering going on in the background to help companies and recruiters connect with the right candidates.

What's different from the following sites is that the only jobs you'll see on LinkedIn are jobs paid for on the LinkedIn platform.

The following sources either wholly or partially "scrape" the internet to find and post jobs.

Indeed.ca / Indeed.com

In response to my post on SimplyHired, I received an email from the folks at Indeed.com.

If you like Google, Indeed.com is certainly a job search tool you should look at as it seems to function in very similar ways. Here is how they explain what they do:

“Indeed is a search engine for jobs - with a radically different approach to job search. In one simple search, Indeed gives job seekers free access to millions of employment opportunities from thousands of websites. Indeed.com includes all the job listings from major job boards, newspapers, associations and company career pages - and we continue to add new sites every day.

With the familiar look and feel of general search engines, Indeed makes it easy for you to drill down by keyword and location to jobs that fit your requirements precisely. You may save your searches and have jobs delivered to you by email alert, MyYahoo, or other RSS feed readers. If you have a MyYahoo account, for example, your saved Indeed job search may be added at the click of a button.”

Give it a try.

They also host a very interesting Where are the Jobs? page that shows graphically among the 50 most populous centres in the United States, where the most current job posting are per capita.

Simply Hired

I have to recommend a highly useful tool to power-up your online job search. It is Simply Hired. Simply Hired essentially gathers jobs from hundreds of job sites and puts them in one search results function. They then give you the power to filter by experience requirements, company size, education level required and more. The ability rank jobs, save jobs to a My Jobs list for later review are all very nice.

If you are going to apply to a job, you will still end up visiting Monster, Career Builder et al. However, it will save you some time, and they do pull from smaller, specialized job sites that you might not visit or know about it.

Worth a look if you are in the market or are doing research.

Eluta.ca

A relatively recent addition to the Canadian job search landscape is Eluta. Like my previous recommendations of SimplyHired and Indeed for the US market, Eluta takes a Google-like approach to spidering Canadian sites and aggregating all the jobs it can find under your search parameters. It really is an available job posting search tool.

Most importantly, it is hitting the actual hiring company site, enabling you to identify current job opportunities that you might not catch on Monster, Workopolis or other Canadian job sites. Valuable and a welcome addition, in my opinion to the Canadian job search landscape.

I am not recommending Eluta as a replacement, but rather a valuable addition to your Canadian job search tool arsenal.

Happy hunting.
